Cycle Hire Terms and Conditions

As set out by A to B Cycles, Mermaid lane, Sark, GY10 1SE

Bikes and equipment can only be hired from A to B Cycles on accepting our hire agreement form and/or our T and Cs on the online booking portal and website, and in doing so and/or by using the bike/s you confirm that you have read and understood the T and Cs and agree to all points within them, irrespective of whether payment occurs before or after acceptance of the bike/s.  You must be over 18 to enter into a hire agreement.

You accept complete responsibility during the period of hire for the safe custody of the equipment and for any loss, theft or damage (howsoever caused). You are responsible for the security of the bicycle and must lock it  whenever unattended and keep the equipment safeguarded at all times. You must return the equipment by specified time and date. Any loss,theft,damage or accident should be notified to the hire company immediately and in the case of theft or accident to the Sark police  too. Please retain a copy of this form for identification purposes.

You accept cycling has risks and confirm that you are a competent cyclist. You should not ride if you are in ill health. Do not ride under the influence of alcohol,strong medication or other drugs. 

Bikes are for use on Sark only. Bikes must not be ridden on the beach, cliff paths, La Coupee, Harbour hill or taken out of the island. Be courteous to pedestrians and other road users. Ride responsibly: do not attempt any manoeuvres beyond your skill level or the bike’s specific capabilities. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not violate any local laws and cycle where cycling is permitted only.  

It is strongly advised that you wear a helmet and use other appropriate safety equipment and clothing. The hirer understands and accepts that A to B Cycles strongly recommend all adults and children wear them. It is the hirer’s responsibility to ensure children wear the helmet provided. We cannot be held responsible for any damage or injuries sustained as a result of a customer not wearing a helmet. Lights are required in hours of reduced light.

You accept full responsibility if you ignore any of the above and we are not liable for death or injury to any person or loss or damage to any property that results. Save in respect of liability for personal injury or death resulting from our negligence, the hire company’s liability to you whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise is limited to the cost of hire. You agree to indemnify us against any liabilities, costs,expenses,damages and looses arising out of or in connection with the death or injury to any person or any damage to property resulting from your hire or use of the equipment. We advise that you do not ride without personal and third party liability insurance. 

The total cost of hire is to be paid before the period of hire commences.  We reserve the right to take the hirer’s credit/debit card details or deposit to hold as security until the equipment is returned subject to the following terms. The details/deposit is to be held against any loss, theft,damage or failure to return the equipment by the specified time and date. Late return/extended hire will be charged for at the normal rate for that hire period. You shall pay any such costs in excess of the deposit.

All hire is subject to availability. 

You are responsible to set up the bike seat and height into a safe cycling position but you must not adjust or alter anything else on the bike without permission from A to B Cycles .

If any problems are noticed or an incident or breakdown occurs this should be reported immediately to us or as soon as reasonably feasible.  Refunds will only be considered for a mechanical failure occurring in the first hour of the hire period.  Thereafter, each rider is deemed to be completely satisfied with the bike/s and/or equipment.

Cancellation of a booking can be done either by phone or email. If you cancel up to 24 hrs before the cycle collection a full refund will be given. For bookings cancelled within 24 hours, a full refund will be given minus any payment system charges. A to B Cycles also reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, whether for safety reasons or otherwise, to cancel bike hire bookings.  In the event of such cancellation, A to B Cycles will offer the hirer an option to reschedule any booking to an alternative date or a refund on any amount paid for hire, but we shall otherwise have no liability whatsoever, including for consequential expenses, in respect of such cancellation.

Ebikes - Maximum weight of rider must not exceed 136 kilos/21 stone. Hirer must declare any pre-existing medical conditions that affect hire, eyesight must be up to standard. The hirer understands and accepts that we strongly advise the wearing of the safety helmets provided.  Only to be used by a person aged 18 and above. By booking and using the E-bike the hirer accepts these T & Cs and declares themselves to be competent to use an E-bike.  A deposit may be taken for E-bikes.  Damage due to hirer negligence will be charged for.  

In the unlikely event of a complaint, please let us know as soon as reasonably possible by calling or emailing us with all details so that we have a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue.
